The Drum Samples FAQ...

Q: What Filetype are the Samples ?
A: The Samples are mostly (90%) in standard Windows WAVE (PCM) Format,
sampled at 16bit / 44khz. The other 10% are at Sample rates up to 32bit / 96khz.
Sometimes the files are internally compressed and wont play in Music Players like
Windows Media Player, please use a Sound Player instead like musicians do ;-)

Q: What Format are the Sample-Packs ?
A: The Sample-Packs are compressed ZIP or RAR files.

RAR is a compression format like ZIP or SITX but the files are much smaller.

If you are on MAC OS you can expand RAR with Stuffit Expander MAC (free version).

If you are on Windows OS here you can get Stuffit Expander WIN (free version).

Another possible help you can get from UnRarX for OS X (Thanks to Peter for Link)

or Unarchiver (Thanks to Morgan for Link).

Newer RAR files, beginning with 2022, are RAR5 format with 3% recovery record.
RAR5 is with 2013 the standard compression algorithm.
Most uncompression software can handle the format without problems, but
especially on Apple systems (nobody knows why), even with older RAR4 and before,
it can be a problem with internal uncompression and password protected files.

I decided the use of RAR because of smaller files and better recovery.
In the future, older files will be updated and converted.

Q: Do you sell the samples ?
A: No, these samples can not be sold, nor resold or redistributed in commercial ways.

All samples are made by some private people and offered free for personal.

if there is a different licence in it, it will be valid as first instance.

It allows reusers to make music with the samples, this music can of course

be commercial work and licensed or sold as of your local and international laws.

There is no requirement of credits in this case.

But it is not allowed to use the samples as part of any software adaption and

distribution, like plugins for DAW, sample players, samples archives (online or

offline) and so on.

It is not allowed to use these samples for any work, if there is any combination

of selling this or any part of the work for money. Noncommercial purposes only.

BY: Credit must be given to you, the creator.
NC: Only noncommercial use of your work is permitted.

Noncommercial means not primarily intended for or directed towards

commercial advantage or monetary compensation.
ND: No derivatives or adaptations of your work are permitted.

The Donation for the larger Sets is only to cover the cost of Bandwith.

Q: What Machine is the Graphic in the Head of the Site ?
A: This is the lovely Roland TR-606, sometimes called "Drumatix", from 1982.

A real essential Drumcomputer with his very own characteristic Sound.

It has been used by some Artists who brought us Chicago House Music and Acid.

Q: I get an error on my Apple MAC with the ZIP or RAR Files, decompression failed...
A: This seems to be an error within MAC OS decompression routines.

You can use Stuffit instead, it works fine.

Q: Is the download legal ?
A: Yes, you can freely download all sounds.

All Samples either are coming from the Web and were freely downloadable without

any restrictions, or are contributions from KB6 Visitors.

Most of the original Source Websites are gone forever, because i am collecting

now for about 23 Years and anytime good sources are dying.

Q: Why are you doing this Website ?
A: Most of the Samples, coming from Vintage Machines like LinnDrum, Sequential

Circuits Drumtraks or Visco Space Drum, are the fundamentals of all modern

Music. So i think, everyone has the right to access this basically and essentially

Sounds. They have to be saved and archived for the future as historic value.

Q: Who are you ?
A: My Name is Kai, i am by now (Jan.2019) 46 years old and living in Germany.

In the early 90s i was producing some electronic music, but in 1997 i went to

Graphic Design Business. Anyway, my love for electronic music (Disco, House,

Electro...) is alway there, and i have a unique fascination with old Drum-Machines.

Q: I did not receive access to the ftp after donation, what can i do ?
A: After donation i send you access data to the ftp. But sometimes people write to me

that they never received the message even after 2 or 3 times i send. I ask people

to check their spam folders but didnt get ANY response... In this case i cant do

anything about. If my mail did not reach you, please use an alternative mailadress

to contact me.

@2018 i ask people all day to leave Hotmail and Yahoo. They delete your mails

without futher notice. Some other providers are blocking my mails completely.

Q: Is there another Way to get the hidden Samples without a Donation ?
A: Yes, alternatively you can contribute some Drum Kit i dont have.

See the Wantlist (not up2date!) or bring me something i dont even know... ask before.

Q: I dont know Paypal, what is it ?
A: Its like an online Bank Account for paying worldwide. It costs you really nothing

if you only want to send some bucks as Donation. Only i have to pay some fee

as the money arrives in my account, so please be sure you dont try to send some

cents, they will be buried by the paypal system and i will receive nohing .

Q: How do i use Paypal and donate ?
A: Simply click on the "Donate" button, anything else is shown after. Please be fair if you

donate, i have to pay fees for every donation that will be cut off before i get something.

Q: What means "Galactica RIP" ?
A: Galactica.de was the predecessor of samples.kb6.de. After megabox.de it was the

first Website i really began intensive offering of Drum Kits in 1997.

I sold Galactica.de in 2004 for about 3.000 Euro, a big mistake i thought after...

Q: Do you sell a Sample-CD/DVD ?
A: No, because i can not guarantee that it arrives everywhere in the world by mail.

Postal services are often not reliable if you send something to the other side of

the Planet. I have done this 10 Years ago and had many problems.
